Affordable Care ActThe Affordable Care Act kicks in

Beginning this month, most people without health insurance can sign up for coverage that will take effect in January 2014. Those who already have insurance may notice some added benefits to job-based coverage, to Medicare, to coverage purchased individually, and to coverage held by individuals with high medical expenses.

How will the ACA affect you?

We want to share a new opportunity offered at the Community Outreach Center in Calhan for the 2014 tax season.  Pikes Peak United Way is embarking on a new volunteer opportunity that we think you or someone you know may be interested in learning more about and supporting.

The purpose of this new volunteer opportunity is to provide volunteer income tax assistance (VITA) tax preparation services and asset-building education and opportunities for low to moderate income families in El Paso County.

The PPUW VITA provides services to individuals at three locations in our community. Two have been identified to date, one in Colorado Springs and one in Calhan-see attachment.  The program not only provides free tax preparation and electronic filing but also increases awareness of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and other asset building opportunities.

Attached is a flyer with the details about the positions we are recruiting for and the volunteer requirements. We anticipate a need to recruit 30 volunteers per position. So, please feel free to forward to any peer, friend, family member, or group that you believe would be a great fit. The only position that requires a tax preparation back ground is the Quality Reviewer.

Please direct any specific questions to or 719-955-0755.
