Community Outreach Center Health and Education Fair
Submitted: Deb Drew
Our 2nd annual Health and Education Fair was held on Sept. 22 from 10AM to 2 PM. It was very well attended this year with around 200 in attendance. We had 40 vendor and service agencies represented this year. We combined the Homecoming Alumni/Booster Club luncheon with our Health Fair and many of our Calhan Alumni took advantage of the Health Fair after they had their lunch. Besides informational booths, we also had health service offerings including free massages, free haircuts, blood pressure and BMI screenings, and spinal alignment screening.
Outside we had a Fire Safety Smoke Trailer. Inside we gave out over 80 school supply bags, held drawings for four $50 value gift baskets with health related gifts, and offered free Face Painting and Balloon animals by Doodlebug the clown (me) and my daughter Darcy Drew. Even our Calhan Bulldog football team had free massages. Unfortunately it didn’t help them win the game, but there is always next year.
It’s a big job to put this on and huge thanks goes out to our committee chairperson Pastor Amanda from the Methodist churches, and her committee members, Michelle Milner from Pikes Peak United Way 211, Marsha Unruh of the Resource Exchange, Liz Hunter-Ball of The Independence Center, and our very own Gregg Doan for Special Kids Special Families.
